We here at EAP attended the opening last night at Passe Muraille of Shakespeare's Nigga. Let's just say we found it to be quite strong. Shakespeare: Surely I have lost control; but I did love you Aaron. I created you all, loved you all.

Aaron: Then, why was my tongue tied so tight?

Two iconic black characters in Shakespeare's work are brought to life in this visionary play. The piece takes you on a journey into the hearts and minds of Othello and Titus Andronicus' Aaron as they confront their creator. This play is subversive and poetic. It will dare you to see Shakespeare in a whole new light.

Romeo and Juliet Premieres at Hart House Theatre

 

Premiering this week at Hart House Theatre is the highly buzzed (within the arts community) production of Romeo and Juliet from up and coming director, Jeremy Hutton. Mr. Hutton was the director behind the brilliant Boeing Boeing piece last spring through Rogue Theatre Co-op and last seasons Richard III and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Hart House. Expect passion, ingenuity and vigor.

A Midsummer Night's Dream has been on for a few weeks in High Park and it is a definite must see this summer.  With the weather expected to be gorgeous all week and Fringe drawing to a close this might be the perfect time to get out to the West End for a summer classic.

Canadian Stage presents William Shakespeare’s classic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream as the 30th anniversary Shakespeare in High Park production (formerly called the Dream in High Park).

With a royal wedding looming, this light-hearted tale follows the adventures of four lovers and a group of amateur actors as they stumble through a mysterious and enchanted evening. Featuring a talented local cast and performed under the stars in High Park, this pay-what-you-can, family-friendly event is one of Toronto’s favourite summer traditions.

Admission This general-admission event is free for children 14 and under and pay-what you-can for adults ($20 suggested minimum donation). Food, beverages and blankets are available for purchase. Getting to the High Park Amphitheatre High Park is located in Toronto's west end, stretching from Bloor Street west in the north to The Queensway in the south and from Parkside Drive in the east to Ellis Avenue in the west.The Amphitheatre is located just east of the Grenadier Restaurant, almost in the centre of the park. If you’re not within walking distance of the park, you can get there by TTC Transit, by car or by bike.
